I like T.J. Miller a lot, but he sounds more and more pompous every time he calls in.  Does anyone else think he was a condescending ass to Drew Michael?

That was Mike Bridenstine, not TJ.

I still have one hour left to listen but at that point Drew Michael has yet to annoy me by turning bitter, resentful and unfunny. Yééééééééé!!!

Great line by him (talking to Mike about space):

If I hear any more talk about the Chicago comedy scene I think my head will explode

At first I was like 'thats what i enjoy the most the local references' then I realized it must be hard for those not local. Part of the reason why I cant stand other shows is they talk so much about where they are without describing it and since im not there its annoying.

I agree that the comedy scene gets talked about too much, but Mike does talk about it in a funny way from any perspective. It just makes it funnier when you know more about the local references.

Mike does always make it interesting, definitely. But listening to Drew moan about the same things comedians have been moaning about on the show for years just gets tired. Mike's always aware of new listeners getting bored and does move off topic often "we've just lost 1000 listeners" which is cool.

But the show has become quite 'inside' lately, like it's not really for the audience anymore but for local comics that might be listening. Obviously it's not every show, there has been some great RBR moments this year.

don't wanna sound like I'm moaning... I love RBR !

I usually love Drew and he's great on the show but for someone who is bitching about played out jokes... Well all I'm saying is Adam Carolla was doing the 'It would be so great to be gay you wouldn't have to worry about sensitive women and you could have tons of sex' bit on Loveline like eight years ago.

Can someone verify this? Possibly with a clip?

I mean Stryker took over for Adam in 05 so I must have heard this in 03-05. With a show every night thats quite a bit of content. I looked for it but didn't really know where to start. I'm pretty sure that they're not still archiving shows from 6 years ago online.
Either way I'm not insinuating that Drew stole his bit or anything, just that I've heard Adam Carolla do it a couple times and it was ironic given his earlier rant.

Any other old school Loveline listeners remember this? I wouldn't make this stuff up.

it's not a bit, it's a thought that every other guy has thought of over the past 40+ years. a simple observation that has nothing to do with Adam or Drew.

also stop whining about the show content. they've always talked about whatever is most interesting/what's on their mind, and these past few days it's been chicaco comedy.

It's an old riff. I think Lenny Bruce did some version of "It'd be great to be a queer..." 50 years ago. And who knows who he "stole" that from. Shit, I think I made that joke in high school and I never even heard of Lenny Bruce at that point. I think you can criticize Drew for the joke being fucked out but not for stealing it. That shit is public domain.

It's hard as fuck to do your own thing without outside influences seeping in. But if you get too worried about doing that you turn into Chris Condran or something. It's hard to be funny without being connected.

I mean, you just kind of proved my point there. I'm not saying the guy's a hack or anything, just that it is kind of a joke that's been done. Without the comments about new standups all doing the same jokes I wouldn't have given it a second thought. I thought it was ironic given that he was making fun of people who use jokes that have been done.
That's all.

I'm not saying he stole it, OR that it's hack. But a comic always wants to know if something similar is out there. It happens all the time. If something is TOO similar, a lot fo comics will either change the bit, or stop doing it all together.

Nothing to do with stealing, it just looks stupid doing a bit that people may already be familiar with.

To be fair, the discussion we had on the show about being gay is not the actual bit.  I am well aware of the "being gay would be nice" premise, but in my joke there is a very specific point I make that I have not heard anywhere else.  For that reason, I would like to hear the similar jokes by Carolla and/or Bruce to see if they touch on the same specific point.
