Either way on all this Drew debate, thanks for the 3 a.m. show fellas... red bar is a gift that keeps on givin'... have been listening for about 9 months and what can I say? Mike , you drive your show like that poster of you on a scooter and a grip of kooky comics plied on your shoulders... Did you ever post any of your LA trip on the "BARMY"? If so, promise I'll sign up my man... You are definitely number one at what you do; I find a bunch of imitators doing shows that at best are just missing something only RED BAR has got... anyways, we'll see if I ever try a call... but I've been itching for a chance to get on the forums... late...

To be fair, the discussion we had on the show about being gay is not the actual bit.  I am well aware of the "being gay would be nice" premise, but in my joke there is a very specific point I make that I have not heard anywhere else.  For that reason, I would like to hear the similar jokes by Carolla and/or Bruce to see if they touch on the same specific point.

I wasn't real articulate, but I was more concerned about refuting the idea that your joke was "stolen" from Carolla. As you just pointed out, it's a very old theme. It was probably old when Bruce brought it out of the burlesque shows and into the mainstream. I said that one could argue the theme was fucked out- he'd be wrong, but he could argue it- but no one could say that you stole the joke because it's unreasonable to expect that common themes aren't going to be touched upon.

I heard Bruce do the bit about six years ago when my dad inherited my grandpa's old vinyl records. I don't think there were a lot of similarities between your bit and his. His wasn't exactly nuanced. It was about what you'd expect from Lenny Bruce; a little corny, a little self-consciously hip. Real Jewy, and he beat you over the head with the point, like all the black comics he was influenced by, or ripped off if you're asking Paul Mooney.

I don't have more specifics than that. Probably would have more luck with finding the Carolla bit.

I really wish I could find the clip, I remember a couple different times he said it. Basically it was what I said, he wishes he was gay because guys are easier to deal with emotionally and wouldn't nag you. Also picking up guys would be easy and then he would imagine scenarios with him attracting guys. And then he would always say "I'm not gay, I never could be, but I wish I was, it would make everything so much simpler"
Honestly I wouldn't worry too much about it, Drew. I'm apparently the only one here who remembers it, it's not like people were listening to Loveline and clinging on to Adam's every word. I might just be really good at retaining auditory.

The gay bit you are talking about starts around 3:32 mark

His whole set is hilarious BTW.
